Welcome to Sonoma County

Resources for exploring all Sonoma County has to offer.

Sonoma County is home to a diverse local business economy, idyllic natural beauty, and remarkable educational opportunities.

Most famous for our world renowned wine offerings, Sonoma County contains 17 American Viticulture Areas (AVAs or appellations) and more than 400 award-winning wineries, making our community the most diverse premium wine-grape growing region in the United States.

Sonoma County also has more than 50 parks and trails from Petaluma to Gualala and Sonoma to Bodega Bay, giving us unprecedented access to the Pacific Ocean, ancient redwood forests, and pristine rivers and lakes. These features are made all the more accessible by our moderate climate which seldom dips below freezing.

Starting a family in Sonoma County is an exciting prospect, and there are many public and private educational institutions to guide your children as they develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally into young adults. The National Blue Ribbon School has recognized 10 Sonoma County schools and 79 schools have been named California Distinguished Schools. Sonoma County is also home to both Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College. SSU is one of the most requested campuses in the CSU system and regularly named a “Best Regional University” by U.S. News & World Report. Each year the SRJC is typically ranked as one of the top 100 community colleges in the nation by the U.S. Department of Education.
